Selecting Sharp Stuff for Trekking and Camping

I did some studies on sharp tools for trekking and camping this week. The three things I learned about were multipurpose tools, knives, and axes.

The multi-tool was my favorite. The multi-tool has many different uses and a very important part is that it is small and does not take up much space. It normally has a plain blade, serrated blade, a saw, and a file. Not as common parts include bits, can openers, scissors, and pliers.

Knives provide ease during trekking and camping. A fixed blade knife could even be used to split wood for fire if needed. You need to know how to use the knife before you go camping/trekking or it might not be the right knife for your needs. Some good rules to follow would be to ovoid tactical knives and odd-shaped blades. You will want a full-tang or narrow-tang knife that has a 4-6 inch blade.

Axes can be used for chopping, limbing, and splitting wood. A 18″ axe is probably the best to bring because it is versatile. Use caution when using axes because they can hurt you if you do not know how to use it.

These are the three sharp things that you may need when camping or trekking. Be sure to learn how to use each one before you begin so that nobody gets hurt.

A Snow Storm

A few years ago I was in a very scary situation. Even though we can die at any time most of us do not expect it to happen any time soon. It was a real eye opener that people can die at any age. It makes you think of everything wrong you ever did. I praise God that even though I did all of those horrible things I can be comforted in the fact that I would be living with him if I had died.

It started when I went to my sewing lesson like every other Thursday. We had just finished the lesson and it started to snow very heavily. The driveway was packed with snow and we could hear trees cracking and falling. The roads where I lived had trees hanging over them everywhere. When we finally got out of the driveway we realized that it was a mistake to try. Trees were falling all down the roads. They were very big trees and at this point any one could hit our car. This was horrifying and I really began to think that I might not get through it if one tree fell.

We ran from the car to the nearest home. We had never met these people but it turned out we had a mutual friend and we actually had been wanting to meet. The gentleman helped pull our vehicle out and actually drove us home that night. The ride back was also scary and I can still remember it perfectly. At one point we were stuck on a phone line. I did not know what that would do so I was terrified that it would electrocute me. And, there were many more falling trees to worry about.

In the end we did get home safety. I am so thankful to God for his mercy in the situation. I could have been hurt or even died and He got me home without even a scratch.

Wild Honey

Wild honey is an extremely healthy food to add to your diet. It has many healing properties and it tastes very good. Wild honey is completely natural and made by very intelligent creatures.

Honey bees make honey from a wide range of flowers. They take the nectar from the flowers and carry it back in their stomachs. Although this may sound very gross it actually adds the glucose and fructose to the honey. The digestive enzymes from their stomachs add new compounds to the honey.

Wild honey is full of protein, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. It has been found to have antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Honey is also full of fructose which is a type of sugar to be avoided. So honey must be taken is moderation. A quote from Proverbs also implies this theory.

Proverbs 25:27 “It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.”

Some ways to use honey would be to apply it directly a wound. Or take it in tea, ginger juice, lime juice, or even just plain.

Wild honey is a great resource God has given us but it needs to be used wisely. It is full of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. We just need to take it in moderation and not over use it.
