Selecting Sharp Stuff for Trekking and Camping

I did some studies on sharp tools for trekking and camping this week. The three things I learned about were multipurpose tools, knives, and axes.

The multi-tool was my favorite. The multi-tool has many different uses and a very important part is that it is small and does not take up much space. It normally has a plain blade, serrated blade, a saw, and a file. Not as common parts include bits, can openers, scissors, and pliers.

Knives provide ease during trekking and camping. A fixed blade knife could even be used to split wood for fire if needed. You need to know how to use the knife before you go camping/trekking or it might not be the right knife for your needs. Some good rules to follow would be to ovoid tactical knives and odd-shaped blades. You will want a full-tang or narrow-tang knife that has a 4-6 inch blade.

Axes can be used for chopping, limbing, and splitting wood. A 18″ axe is probably the best to bring because it is versatile. Use caution when using axes because they can hurt you if you do not know how to use it.

These are the three sharp things that you may need when camping or trekking. Be sure to learn how to use each one before you begin so that nobody gets hurt.

Wild Honey

Wild honey is an extremely healthy food to add to your diet. It has many healing properties and it tastes very good. Wild honey is completely natural and made by very intelligent creatures.

Honey bees make honey from a wide range of flowers. They take the nectar from the flowers and carry it back in their stomachs. Although this may sound very gross it actually adds the glucose and fructose to the honey. The digestive enzymes from their stomachs add new compounds to the honey.

Wild honey is full of protein, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. It has been found to have antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Honey is also full of fructose which is a type of sugar to be avoided. So honey must be taken is moderation. A quote from Proverbs also implies this theory.

Proverbs 25:27 “It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.”

Some ways to use honey would be to apply it directly a wound. Or take it in tea, ginger juice, lime juice, or even just plain.

Wild honey is a great resource God has given us but it needs to be used wisely. It is full of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. We just need to take it in moderation and not over use it.

Vegetables Vs. Fruit

fresh_vegetables_in_basket-2560x1600.jpg“Eat your fruits and vegetables” is what you always hear when someone is trying to give you advice on eating healthy. But, is one better than the other? Or is one (or both) not good for your health either?

Well, the truth is that vegetables win this fight. Veggies are packed full of nutrients and enzymes that your body needs. Now this does not mean that all veggies are equally healthy. Some are more nutritious than others.

Fruit on the other hand can have some great vitamins but has lots of sugars. These sugars are called fructose. They are natural sugars found in fruits but can be just as destructive to the body as regular sugar . Of course it is still better to eat an apple or an orange instead of candy or cake. But, fruits just like sweets need to be monitored.

So when it comes to eating your fruits and veggies make the wiser choice and eat the veggies. Avoid the fructose rich fruit and eat the nutrient full vegetables.

Enzymes

Enzymes are extremely important to your health. Without them you would not be able to live. Enzymes ( also known as molecular catalysts) help your cells conduct a chemical reaction. In other words, they are what help you think, talk, taste, see, hear, and much more.

Your body makes these enzymes and are often made when you start chewing. The reason for this is because when you start chewing you should be eating and the enzymes are going to help take the nutrient from the food for your health. Chewing gum should be avoided so that you do not send a false signal to your body to create enzymes when they are not needed.

But what happens when you are eating  unhealthy and your body cannot produce enough enzymes? You are going to have to incorporate them into your diet. There are a couple options. You could either take a supplement or you could start including vegetables into your diet. Vegetables are full of enzymes. In order to keep their full potential you cannot cook them to (or any more than) 116 degrees Fahrenheit. When you do this you kill all of the enzymes inside the vegetables. The best way to eat them is raw or slightly steamed.

Today people eat almost all of their food cooked. This is a terrible mistake and needs to be fixed. We need to incorporate raw organic vegetables into our every day diet to improve our health and life.
