Flower Pot Cake

Picture this:

10:30 at night cake covered in fondant with air bubbles, lumps, and falling apart. A bunch of sugar on the floor and there is a giant mess on the table. That is how this cake started.

I wake up this morning and I am angry at it for being ugly and I really just want to throw it away and forget about it. But, then I would have to hate it forever and after all I did just spend the last two days waiting for these sugar flower daisies to dry.

So, I tore off the fondant and proceeded to make modeling chocolate and recovered my cake. A tip for any baker no matter how ugly it looks just try one more time. You never know, it might just turn out as beautiful as this cake did. Always have a plan B when you decorate a cake.  Because I actually really love this cake now. I sent a picture of it to my friend and her reply was “Rebecca that is beautiful!!! That is a cake right? It looks so much like flowers in a pot!” .  ❤ I always love it when people have to ask if it is cake!

Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo

Leonardo was born in the town of Florence in the year 1452. He was a famous artist during the time of the renaissance. His first work that we know of is the drawing of Arno Valley.  He also became a master in the Guild of Saint Luke. His most famous painting is the well-known Mona Lisa. It is unknown who the woman in the painting is but we do know that he took a great deal of time and effort to make it perfect.

Leonardo was also known to be very smart. He also had many scientific and mathematic projects as well as his paintings.  He thought that both art and science were connected. He wrote all his ideas in about 13,000 pages. He died in the year 1519 in France and was remembered as an important man in the renaissance.

Michelangelo was another well-known artist during the time of the renaissance. He was born just outside of Tuscany, Italy in the year 1475. He was an apprentice of a man who owned the largest workshop in Florence. He is famous for the statue of David and the painting on the Sistine Chapel.

Before he died he designed St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome which he did not see finished. He died in the year 1564 and was remembered (just like Leonardo) for his influence during the renaissance.

Birch Bark Wedding Cake

This is the third wedding cake I have made. I also made 24 cupcakes to go with the cake. The cupcakes each had a small modeling chocolate birch bark heart with the couple’s initials. I had posted a tier of this cake a while back and leaning from it I added roses and leaves. The couple added the topper later but I think it was a very nice addition especially for an outdoor wedding.
