Burgundy and Rose Wedding Cake

This is the first three tiered wedding cake I have made by myself. I think it came out very well. If I could do anything different I would probably have made my top tier a little smaller. Other than that I think it went according to plan.

Vintage Brush Stroke Cake

When I first started this cake I wanted to tear it up and throw it away. It looked really bad! But, this was one of those cases where you learn from your mistakes. I think it turned out lovely. When I started I wanted a burgundy/wine color with light pink. It ended up a dusty rose and vintage purple. I added the pearls and tons of luster dust to make it glitter and look very vintage. In the world of cake decorating sometimes you actually like your mistakes better than your original plan.

Selecting Sharp Stuff for Trekking and Camping

I did some studies on sharp tools for trekking and camping this week. The three things I learned about were multipurpose tools, knives, and axes.

The multi-tool was my favorite. The multi-tool has many different uses and a very important part is that it is small and does not take up much space. It normally has a plain blade, serrated blade, a saw, and a file. Not as common parts include bits, can openers, scissors, and pliers.

Knives provide ease during trekking and camping. A fixed blade knife could even be used to split wood for fire if needed. You need to know how to use the knife before you go camping/trekking or it might not be the right knife for your needs. Some good rules to follow would be to ovoid tactical knives and odd-shaped blades. You will want a full-tang or narrow-tang knife that has a 4-6 inch blade.

Axes can be used for chopping, limbing, and splitting wood. A 18″ axe is probably the best to bring because it is versatile. Use caution when using axes because they can hurt you if you do not know how to use it.

These are the three sharp things that you may need when camping or trekking. Be sure to learn how to use each one before you begin so that nobody gets hurt.

Cake Requests

I am going to start working on wedding cakes to sell. I need to know what I will need to learn to start this journey. I would like to know what your dream wedding cakes would look like. You don’t have to be engaged, I just want to know what is in style for weddings. Send me pictures, descriptions, colors, and decoration ideas in the comments below. If I think I can sell the cake I will make it and post pictures for you to see!

Birch Tree Cake

If you have been on Pinterest lately you will know that a new popular wedding cake is in style. I knew when I saw it I had to try it. Normally there would be 2-3 tiers but I just did one to keep it easy. I used home-made marshmallow fondant. It is a mixture of hand painting and airbrush work.  I hope you like it!
